The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, also known as “The Runner’s Rite of Spring”, is organized by The Credit Union Cherry Blossom organization, and has been held every year in Washington, DC. Founded in 1973 originally as a precursor training run for elite runners planning to compete in the Boston Marathon, the race has evolved over the years into a local race for runners of all abilities. An USATF-certified run, The Credit Union Cherry Blossom believes in inclusion, respect, and tolerance.
The race is scheduled for the first Sunday of each April, meant to coincide with the bloom of the Cherry blossoms that were given as a gift in 1912 by the mayor of Tokyo. The race is part of the city’s National Cherry Blossom Festival in late March and early April.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. About one-third of the funds raised support Washington DC’s own Children’s National Medical Centre (“Children’s Hospital”). It also funds Roads Scholar (Road Runners Club of America) and supports up-and-coming U.S. distance running talent.

Other than above:
- 10 mile: Wheelchair division (top 3) and age groups awards- below 19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ (top 3 for below 19/ 75-79; top 1 for 80+ and top 5 for other ages) would be given in a 10-mile category.
- 5 km: Age groups awards- below 19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ (top 1 for 80-84/ 85-89/ 90+ and top 3 for other ages) would be given in 5 km category.
- Nonbinary participants would also be awarded in both 10-mile and 5km categories.
Points to note for prize money:
- If a Male and Female both set a new American or World Record, the payout will be $5000 each to the Male and Female setting the record.
- If only one new American or World Record is set, the payout will be $10,000 to the athlete setting the new record, whether it be an American Record, a World Record, or both.
- The total payout for American and World records will not exceed $20,000.
- Age group awards will be given out in 2023 but will be mailed.
- 5K Run-Walk: Only the Top male and females get rewards.

Important Points
- Registration is non-refundable.
- Team entries are also allowed. Please check here for more details on Team composition requirements and other details.
- For everyone’s safety, running with a dog or headphones is NOT permitted.
- Water and Gatorade Endurance Formula are available at the staging area and at aid stations located at 5 points on the course (2.5, 4.25, 6, 7.75, and 8.85-mile markers). Medical services are also available at aid stations.
