Organized by a group of local, dedicated members of Run Wild Missoula, The Missoula Marathon, came into existence as the group wanted to share the area’s beauty and unique feel with runners from all over the world. Named as the Best Marathon in the U.S. on several occasions, The Missoula Marathon is one of our community’s most beloved and supported events

Prize Money

Information about the prizes/ awards for the Missoula Marathon 2024 is detailed below.

Marathon & Half Marathon

The overall Top 3 finishers (male/ female/ non binary) in each event/ division are awarded cash prices (as given below)

In addition to above, following bonuses are also awarded:

• $300 Bonus* for Montana State Soil Records in Marathon or Half Marathon
• $300 Bonus* for US Olympic Trials Standard in Marathon or Half Marathon
• $200 Bonus* for Overall Course Record in Marathon or Half Marathon
• $100 Bonus* for Masters Course Record in Marathon or Half Marathon
• $100 Award* for first Montanan (Current Resident)
• $50 Award* for first Run Wild Missoula member

Points to note for the awards:

• Bonuses are in addition to placing award.
• Masters are athletes ages 40 and over on race day. Masters are also eligible for open prize money.
• Overall prizes and cash will be awarded based on gun time, not chip time. Age group awards would be based on chip time
• Prize money awards will be mailed once official race results have been verified

Important Points

1. Deferrals: No deferrals are allowed. Those registered but cannot participate, can either request a partial refund, transfer Bib to another registrant or switch races
2. Wheelchairs: Racing Wheelchairs, Everyday Wheelchairs and Handcycles are allowed in the Missoula Marathon & Half Marathon. It is highly recommended that Wheelchair entrants must wear helmets at all times and have a flag (at least 5’ off the ground) and/or flashing light(s) on each wheelchair or handcycle
3. Music devices and earbuds/earphones are strongly discouraged.
4. Baggage claim: Baggage claim available.
5. Pacers are available.
6. There would be aid stations located along the course providing water, powerade drinks and gels (limited stations only)
7. Participant tracking: Live participant tracking & results for the the 5K, Missoula Marathon and Half Marathon are available via Competitive Timing App. Available on the App Store and Google Play.
8. Dogs are not allowed (with the exception of ADA service animals) in any of the races, at packet pickup in Caras Park, or at the post race celebration in Caras Park.
9. Baby joggers strollers are allowed, but need to start toward the back and or the sides of the course. Please use caution when around other runners. Strollers must be foldable and able to be stored between the seats of the shuttle buses to the start lines.
10. Time limit: Both Marathon & Half Marathon have a time limit of 7.5 hrs
11. Registration limit: There are limited slots for the race- Marathon (1500), Half Marathon (3000) and 5K (1500)
