The AACR Philadelphia Marathon is an annual marathon held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania since 1954. It ranks among the top ten in the nation’s largest marathons with over 30,000 runners from across 50 states of the USA as well as across multiple countries.
The race route (certified by USATF) starts near the cultural Museum District and takes the runners through the city’s most scenic and historic neighborhoods with a finish line in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. While the terrain has many uphill and downhill challenges for the runners, the course itself is quite flat compared to other large-scale marathons.
The Philadelphia Marathon Weekend has grown tremendously over the year especially after the half marathon category was added in 2006.

^ Kids “Dashes” age eligibility is 5-12 years while the “One mile and Half-mile” kids run is open for 6-12-year-olds.
# Wheelchair races will start 5 min prior to runners/walkers – 6:55 am for Full Marathon & Half Marathon and 10:55 am for 8K.
* Please note that all youth race participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian’s signed authorization on the official event application and waiver.
** Fees for events are time–sensitive i.e. increases closer to the race date. Early bird discounts are usually available till mid January

Important Points
- Participants should have a valid and legible photo ID Card during registration/ bib collection. Age proof is also required.
- Covid Vaccination: Runners will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to race weekend. Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 is currently defined as having completed a CDC or World Health Organization-authorized vaccination series two weeks prior to race day. Kids aged 5 & above also need to be fully vaccinated.
- VIP Package available: The VIP booking package includes exclusive perks like private restrooms, gear check, light continental breakfast, post-race brunch, and a private heated tent near the start/finish line.
- Runner Referral Program where the runner gets a cashback if he/she refers the race to a certain number of people (and who use the runner’s referral URL to register).
- Hand-crank bikes are not permitted at any of the 2022 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend events.
- Aid stations: Water and Gatorade will be provided at the fluid stations. Gatorade gels will be available just after mile 11, just before mile 18, and just after mile 22 for the full marathon. There will not be any nutritional gels for the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon.
- Pacers are provided.
- Further details can be accessed through the Race guide.
- For those participating in the Patriot Challenge & Freedom Challenge, they need to finish the Half Marathon prior to 11:00 am so that they can start with the 8K run on time with other 8K runners.
- Time limits are applicable for the races after which the course would be open for regular vehicular traffic.
- Full Marathon: 7 hrs (By 2 pm)
- Half Marathon: 4 hrs 30 min (By 11:30 am)
