With over 4,000 runners competing in the Buffalo Marathon, the event offers an ideal race to get a personal PB and possibly a BQ time as well.
Befitting the city called the “city of trees”, the Buffalo Marathon race route takes runners through a scenic route that not only includes lots of parks & scenic waterways but also takes them along Lake Erie and other landmarks like First Niagara Center Home of Buffalo Sabres, Forest Lawn Cemetery, etc. The race course is mostly flat with minimal hills and hence makes for a fast course – an ideal route for those racing to qualify for the Boston Marathon or for the matter any of the World Majors. With the city typically witnessing an average temperature of 52ºF, the weather in May is usually cool to mild – another added bonus.
The race, for both marathon & half marathon, starts and ends at the Buffalo Convention Center. While the initial miles are through residential areas, the route takes the runners to the water and then back again to downtown for the finish. Along the entirety of the race course, runners are entertained with performances by various local artists/ live bands every couple of miles. Moreover, there is a lot of crowd support from the community with very few spots that are relatively bereft of cheering people. To top it all, the post-finish party includes lots of beer and food options for the finishers! The race also offers great volunteer support present along the route.

Prize Money
Information about the prizes/ awards for the Buffalo Marathon 2024 is provided below.
For the Buffalo Marathon, following awards are handed out for Marathon & Half Marathon athletes who break the existing course record in the full/half marathon (Prize money for course records are based on gun time)

5K Awards
- Overall First place (Men/ Women)

- Top three (Men/ Women) in each of the following age groups will receive awards:
9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 plus.

Important Points
- Registration is non-refundable but can be deferred or transferred.
- Water and Gatorade are available at aid stations. Energy gels would also be available at limited aid stations for the full marathon participants.
- Medical and washroom facilities would also be available on the route/course as well at the start point/finish line of a race
- Time limits are applicable for all the races after which the course would be open for regular vehicular traffic. Runners/ walkers are expected to finish in the following times:
- Full marathon: 6 hrs
- Half marathon: 3 hrs
- 5k run: 1 hr 30 min
- With the race start time of 6:30 am for Marathon & Half Marathon, the course closes by 12:30 pm
